Have you ever attended a wedding and either got frustrated about something or thought to yourself, “I would have done it differently?” We probably all have at one point or another, so when you are finally in the position of planning your own child’s wedding, keep all those things in mind! Here are some thoughts about the reception.
Not to sound like a broken record, but if you have decided to have an unlimited open bar for the length of the reception, you should make sure you are comfortable with your guests’ ability to take advantage of this. Ask if the servers bring the drinks to your table, ask how many bars and how many bartenders are serving during the reception. Guests should have the choice to either order their drink from their server or get one on their own. Again, this is a big part of your total bill so you have every right to get the specifics before you decide to book.
Speaking of servers, ask how many will be waiting on each table. This can greatly change the experience a guest will have. If I order a glass of wine from the server, no matter how good he/she might be, if they are waiting on two full tables, I might be better off getting it myself. The more servers will also ensure there isn’t a huge difference in the time guests get served dinner as well. A major hit with Kelly’s wedding at Clarks Landing in Point Pleasant was dinner was served at the same time at every table. Many guests mentioned to us how amazing it was when dinner was served almost like a choreographed dance. Even if a venue doesn’t offer that, just make sure your guests won’t be waiting around to eat long after others.
Now for the glamor part of the wedding…the bathrooms. 🤣 At your venue visit, ask to see the bathrooms to make sure you feel they are adequate in size and location to the ballroom. If the venue has multiple weddings at once, will you have to share with the other wedding? You definitely don’t want your guests (mainly female guests) waiting in a long line and missing out on precious time on the dance floor!
Just asking the right questions about what’s important to you will definitely help anyone to make a great decision and make sure the day is perfect!
